Believe it! Located in the rolling hills of Northeast Iowa sits a Chateau styled winery, built to capture the beauty of the countryside and provide a home suitable for handcrafted, award-winning Midwest wines. The design was a second marriage between Elizabeth Cushman's eclectic taste in old world feel with Dave Cushman (father)'s practicality and function wed by local Architect Jeffery Morton. The construction was managed by Dave W. (son) with himself and brother's Tom and Jim, college friends and cousin building most of the main structure themselves. The old world look hides the modern technology of Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction that provides a cave like insulation for geothermal technology to heat and cool the building with a reduced environmental impact yet providing optimum conditions for making and storing wine. Inside, besides the production and storage of wine, the winery boasts a tasting bar, retail shop, event room available for rent along with a catering kitchen and audio visual system with wireless internet access. Out the back a large, open deck faces a magnificent view of a valley lined with timber and terraced fields. Our guests are encouraged to bring picnic lunches or snacks to enjoy with a glass of wine on our deck during the summer, or beside the enormous fireplace in our event room during the colder months. |
